Indian couple drowns on Sri Lanka beach

An Indian couple vacationing with their family drowned on a sea beach near Hambantota in southern Sri Lanka, police said on June 5.

The deceased were identified as a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both Indian nationals, and preliminary investigations said the victims were a married couple.

“The incident took place on Tuesday during a visit to Sri Lanka with their family at Kirinda Beach,” news portal reported. Police have not released the identities of the victims.

Police said the two persons were rescued while drowning after being swept away by strong waves, but died upon admission to hospital.
