“Beyond the setting, beyond bikinis versus sweaters, it’s really going to try something different narratively and tonally. I’m already excited about making the next one,” Johnson teased to Netflix’s Tudum after the second film’s release.

In October 2023, Johnson detailed his plans for the third installment. “It’s coming,” he told The Wrap. “During the strike I obviously couldn’t work, and now that it’s over, I’m diving with full force. I have the premise, I have the setting, I have what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing down.’

Johnson elaborated again in May 2024, writing via X: “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum, from Carr to Christie, and exploring that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc films.

He continued: “We are about to enter the third production, and I am very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where things are going.”
