Mokster, sales company in Southeast Asia at the Cannes market

Former Endeavor Content and WME Independent director Nelson Mok has joined forces with Asian TV veteran Ricky Ow to launch Mokster Films. The company positions itself as an investment and sales company for Asian-produced content.

The company will be involved in rights sales, film development and film financing. The “strategic focus is on growing the film industry in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan,” the company said. Mokster and Mok will also continue to work together as partners with WME Independent on a range of current titles.
Mokster Films will hit the Cannes market next week, where it expects to unveil projects from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand.

“Nelson is a leading executive in the Southeast Asia region with a great eye for material,” said Alex Walton, co-head of WME Independent. “We have had real success working with Nelson in recent years and we look forward to continuing the work in this new capacity.”

Mok joined Endeavor Content in 2019 and later moved to WME Independent in 2021. During his tenure, he helmed a wide range of films from Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, including notable projects such as ‘The Bridge Curse’ franchise, ‘Backstage ”, “Dominion of Darkness”, “Furies”, “Red Thread”, “The Cursed Land” and this year’s biggest box office hit in Thailand, “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies”, which is on track for theatrical release across Thailand. Ricky Ow, who will act as a consultant, is one of the biggest names in Asian television with a career that spans WarnerMedia, Turner and Sony Pictures. Last month it was announced that Ow would join the board of directors of the Asian streaming platform Viddsee.
