The reigning queen of Comic-Con and the ultimate sci-fi superstar, Sigourney Weaver, may be gearing up to conquer yet another interstellar franchise.

Weaver is in talks to join the cast of the Star Wars film ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Variety has confirmed.

Earlier this year, Lucasfilm announced the standalone spinoff starring Pedro Pascal as the stoic bounty hunter known as “The Mandalorian” (or Djarin for fans deep in the franchise) and his disarmingly charming puppet master Grogru (or, as he’s commonly known , Baby Joda). Created by Jon Favreau for Disney+, the series followed an odd couple as they travel across the galaxy far, far away, dodging the realm and protecting the adorable green creature while building a relationship for the ages. It’s part Western, part monster of the week, with occasional wonderful cameos from older characters from the Star Wars universe.

Favreau will direct the feature film. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni will also produce “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” This will be the first Star Wars film to enter production since “Episode IX: The Rise of the Skywalker.”

The upcoming film’s placement within the live-action series’ chronology remains a mystery, as the show has already aired three seasons and the fourth season has already been written to tie in with the companion Star Wars spinoff series ‘Ashoka’ and others. .

Weaver already has an impressive list of geek-oriented franchises under her belt, including “Ghostbusters,” “Avatar” and (of course) the “Alien” franchise, where she made her name in 1979 as the iconic Ripley.
