The Roosters are reportedly trying to recruit rising Knights star David Armstrong, but Newcastle powerbrokers are desperate to retain his services.

That is according to The Daily Telegraphreporting on Armstrong’s recent form filling for superstar Kalyn Ponga has caught the attention of several clubs.

Armstrong, 23, has received an offer to stay in the Hunter from the Knights, and the club are reportedly confident they will retain the talented full-backs.

He is out of contract for the 2025 season and there have been issues with his contract negotiations due to multiple agents acting on his behalf.

But that issue has now reportedly been resolved and Armstrong is close to making a decision about his long-term future.

If he remains at Newcastle, he will have to slot behind Ponga in the full-back pecking order, with the reigning Dally M medalist sidelined due to a Lisfranc injury.

Meanwhile, his path to the No.1 jersey is also blocked at the Roosters in 2025, with James Tedesco still having a year left on his current contract.

Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett is reportedly trying to lure one of his star strikers to Sydney next season.

Souths and Euan Aitken are reportedly discussing a deal for next season, meaning the in-form back rower could follow Bennett, who will rejoin the Rabbitohs on a three-year deal.

According to The Daily Telegraphthe Dolphins are not yet ready to offer Aitken an extension of more than one year.

However, the versatile forward is looking for a little more security and is hoping for a multi-year deal with Souths, who are reportedly entertaining that idea.

Bennett has said he won’t hire players the Dolphins want to keep.

“That’s not going to happen. I didn’t build this club to try to destroy it,” said the legendary coach.

“If there’s a guy they don’t offer a contract to or he wants to go somewhere else and I think he can play a little bit, then that will be a different thing.”

The Raiders have previously hosted England stars Elliott Whitehead, George Williams and Josh Hodgson.

Most recently, Morgan Smithies joined Ricky Stuart’s squad ahead of the 2024 season and has become a regular starter in the number 13 jersey.

Another English talent, Lewis Dodd, will also make the move to Australia ahead of the 2025 season, signing with the Rabbitohs.
