EXCLUSIVE: Sources tell us that 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is off to a good start with previews around $6.5 million. That consists of Thursday night money that started coming in at 3 p.m., and about $1.6 million from Wednesday fan shows that started at 7 p.m.
We’ll find out tomorrow morning if it’s the best Thursday night ever Apes movie best of 2017 War for the Planet of the Apes which earned $5 million on preview night before a $22.1 million Friday and a $56.2 million opening. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ is 82% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics and 82% with RT audiences.
Tonight’s results are a breath of fresh air in addition to Universal’s $3.15 million previews on Wednesday and Thursday Fall guy last weekend, which fizzled with a $27.7 million opening. While fans will hopefully always populate the Thursday night shows Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with a running time of 2 hours and 25 minutes, it can stay together all weekend.
Hands down tonight, it’s the best preview money for a Ball film, beating all his films Maze Runner titles.
