Thunderful has announced that SteamWorld Heist 2 is in development, and it will be released on August 8th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. It comes nine years after the first SteamWorld Heist originally released for the Nintendo 3DS, and while some of the aspects are similar, the location has changed from space to the sea.

In SteamWorld Heist II you are Captain Leeway and, along with your recruited crew, you will be a pirate of the seas while also trying to find out why the water has suddenly started to become deadly to the Steambots. There is a mixture of gameplay from facing off against enemies with your own weapons, and using the environment to assist, to sailing across the seas and making discoveries along the way. There is also real time naval combat and raids available, giving more opportunity for plunder. With the plunder you will be able to upgrade your items, and your crewmates to make them more effective for a life on the waves.

In our SteamWorld Heist review, Dave said, “While I wasn’t completely sold on the limited inventory space available, the penalties for death, and the initial ease of the game, Steamworld Heist made for a great time. Tactical combat on a 2D plane is hard to make engaging and the occasional urgency of the short levels made for some badass moments where a sharp shot sealed the deal. A competent, if completely different second outing in the SteamWorld universe.”
